Daimler Truck North America is making two key leadership changes this month.
Kevin Bangston has taken over as president and CEO of Daimler Truck Financial Services North America, effective Sept. 1, while T.J. Reed has been appointed president and CEO of Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. and Thomas Built Buses, starting Sept. 9.
Bangston, who previously led FCCC and Thomas Built, was announced as the new head of Daimler Truck Financial Services on July 31. He replaces Richard Howard, who retired.
Bangston has more than 25 years of experience in the transportation industry and began his career at DTNA in corporate finance in 2001. He has held leadership roles in Germany, Indonesia and Japan.

“Kevin’s proven leadership track record and broad experience across both DTNA and the larger Daimler Truck organization positions him well for success in his new position,” said John O’Leary, DTNA president and CEO. “We look forward to having him as a member of our DTNA Operating Committee and working together to continue providing our customers and dealers the industry-leading service and support they expect and deserve.”
Stephan Unger, CEO of Daimler Truck Financial Services GmbH, added, “With his leadership skills, his experience and deep knowledge of the transportation industry, Kevin will further develop our business and lead our transformation in North America from pure financial to a complete commercial vehicle service provider.”

Reed, stepping in as Bangston’s successor at FCCC and Thomas Built, brings more than 25 years of industry experience to the role. Reed has held various leadership positions at DTNA since 1998, most recently serving as president of Daimler Truck Remarketing and the SelecTrucks brand. His expertise spans product marketing, pricing, and profit and loss responsibilities.

“T.J.’s broad experience across the industry, as well as his exceptional customer focus, makes him the perfect fit for this role,” said Jeff Allen, senior vice president at DTNA. “His expertise and personality will enable him to drive innovation and growth for both companies.”
Reed’s time outside DTNA includes a stint at Meritor Inc., where he led global business development for electrification, an area of growing importance in the industry. The company said his deep knowledge of both traditional and emerging vehicle technologies positions him well to lead FCCC and TBB as they navigate the shift toward alternative-fuel solutions.
O’Leary expressed confidence in Reed’s leadership, noting, “With his vision and holistic approach to operations, he will be a valuable asset to these already strong businesses — and help continue to pave the way to sustainable transportation.”
