HANOVER, Germany — The head of Daimler Trucks said the world’s largest commercial vehicle maker expects “a moderate recovery” in U.S. truck sales this year, and that he does not foresee a double-dip recession.

Andreas Renschler, who runs the Daimler AG division, said the worldwide outlook is stronger, led primarily by growth in China, India and Brazil. He said the vehicle maker was optimistic about the future.

“The ‘good old days’ in our industry are gone,” he told some 500 journalists at a reception on the eve of the Hanover Trucks Show, the world’s largest truck show. “But that’s OK, because we’re now headed towards very good new days.”

He said the commercial vehicle market would strengthen as the world recovers from the recession and that production could grow by more than 50% by 2015, to 3 millions vehicles a year.
