Daphne Jefferson was named deputy administrator at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration in February, succeeding Bill Bronrott, according to a letter from the agency’s acting administrator obtained by Transport Topics.
Jefferson most recently was the department’s deputy assistant secretary for administration. She also served as counselor to the chief of staff. From 2011 to 2013, she was the agency’s associate administrator for administration, as well as acting chief financial officer.
She took over for Bronrott, whose last day was Feb. 6, according to the letter. An official announcement is expected.
Acting Administrator Scott Darling praised Jefferson, writing that she “brings a range and depth of federal executive experience and leadership, along with integrity, intelligence, wisdom and professionalism, to the workplace.”
“She will be an enormous boost to our agency as we work to accomplish our priorities for 2015 and beyond,” Darling wrote.
Last week, Darling told a Senate committee his last day in his acting capacity will be March 23. The Obama administration has yet to nominate somebody for the agency’s top post.
