DAT Report Shows Loads Rise 7.5% for Week
The latest DAT report of spot truckload load volume showed a 7.5% increase during the week ended Aug. 2 from the previous week.
Van rates dipped 0.5% from the previous week to $2.06 per mile, excluding fuel surcharge, DAT reported.
“Rates are drifting down, which is typical for this time of year. July is a time of transition. After Independence Day, the berries, watermelons and patriotic merchandise have been delivered and consumed, the growing season comes to an end in Florida, South Texas and Southern California, and marketplace pressure recedes,” Mark Montague, a DAT economist, said in a statement.
For the month, flatbed load volume declined 11% compared with June, and capacity increased 14%, pushing the load-to-truck ratio down 22%.
Compared with July 2013, there were 52% more flatbed loads and 19% fewer trucks posted.
