Twenty-nine drivers from 10 companies competed in six divisions in this year’s event: 3-Axle, 4-Axle, 5-Axle, Twins, Straight Truck and Step Van. The participants had combined for more than 10 million, accident-free, safe-driving miles entering the competition. Also, all drivers had been employed by the same company for at least one year.
Drivers recorded points through a written test, pre-inspection administered by the Rhode Island State Police Commercial Enforcement Unit and a driving skills test. Last year’s Grand Champion, Joseph Hicks of XPO Logistics, won the 3-Axle crown again. Each division winner will get an opportunity to compete at the National Truck Driving Championships Aug. 14-17 in Pittsburgh.
