The Department of Defense has placed a multimillion-dollar order with Orbcomm Inc., a provider of machine-to-machine and Internet of Things solutions, and Savi, a big data and machine learning analytic solutions company, according to a press release.
Financial details were not disclosed.
Orbcomm and Savi will provide products and services that enable the department to track and monitor nearly 24,000 high-value military assets. The order is part of the active RFID-IV contract to provide government agencies with elite hardware, software and integration services for asset tracking and in-transit visibility. Currently, Savi is the sole provider for the contract, which has a $102 million ceiling.
Orbcomm’s cellular devices will be used alongside Savi’s platform to supply in-transit visibility and inventory and logistics data.
“We are pleased to be part of the team selected for this important project by the U.S. Department of Defense, which offers an exciting opportunity to expand our government business,” Orbcomm CEO Marc Eisenberg said.
Orbcomm and Savi plan to deploy their solutions in the fourth quarter of 2018 and work with agency officials to expand their solutions to other groups within the department.
