Diesel’s national average price dipped 0.7 cent to $2.931 a gallon, its fourth straight decline, the Department of Energy said Tuesday.
The downturn brings the total of the past month’s drops to 6 cents, according to DOE records.
Trucking’s main fuel is now 28.4 cents higher than the same week last year, DOE said following its weekly survey of filling stations.
Gasoline’s average was unchanged, holding at $2.682 a gallon. Gas had fallen 10.1 cents in three previous declines and is now 9.4 cents over the same week a year ago.
Crude oil fell 60 cents Tuesday — the most in a week — to finish the trading day at $74 a barrel, Bloomberg reported.
Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
This week’s survey was released on Tuesday because of the Labor Day holiday on Monday.
