Diesel Dips Half-Cent to $3.853
The average price of diesel fuel in the U.S. dipped a half-cent to $3.853 a gallon, its fifth consecutive decline, the Department of Energy reported Aug. 4.
The decrease left trucking’s main fuel 5.6 cents below the same week last year, DOE said after its weekly survey of filling stations.
Diesel has declined in 18 of the past 23 weeks and is down almost 17 cents since topping out at $4.021 March 10, its highest price in a year.
The price has slipped 6.7 cents in its five declines since the end of June.
Gasoline, meanwhile, fell 2.4 cents, to $3.515 a gallon, also the fifth straight decline, in which it has dropped 18.9 cents.
The downturn left the motor fuel at its lowest level since March 10 and 11.7 cents below the comparable week last year.
Each week, DOE surveys about 400 diesel filling stations and 800 gasoline stations to compile national average prices.
