California’s South Coast Air Quality Management District is offering incentive funding of up to $50,000 for the purchase of a diesel truck or up to $100,000 for the purchase of a natural gas truck, in return for scrapping an older Class 8 diesel truck, the agency said.
The management district, the air pollution control agency for all of Orange County and the urban portions of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, said it will accept applications for the state and federally funded grants through 1 p.m. on Friday, March 12.
The district is the nation’s smoggiest region.
The grants are part of the state and air district’s strategy to reduce diesel-related emissions from freight movement activities within the Los Angeles/Inland Empire trade corridor by replacing older heavy-duty diesel trucks with newer, lower-emitting heavy-duty diesel or natural gas trucks.
