Diesel, Gasoline Each Dip 1.6¢ in Second Straight Declines
Diesel and gasoline each slipped 1.6 cents, their second straight drops, with diesel declining to $3.948 a gallon, the Department of Energy reported May 12.
Gasoline dropped to $3.668 a gallon, DOE said following its weekly survey of filling stations.
Diesel’s downturn was its seventh in the past nine weeks, while gasoline’s was the second following 12 straight gains, according to DOE records.
Diesel is now 8.2 cents higher than the same week last year, and gas is 6.5 cents over the corresponding week a year ago.
Despite its recent declines, trucking’s primary fuel is just 7.3 cents below its $4.021 level of March 10. Gas is 37.6 cents higher than its $3.292 level of early February.
Each week, DOE surveys about 400 diesel filling stations and 800 gasoline stations to compile national average prices.
