Diesel Price Drops 3¢ to $3.491 a Gallon

The national average diesel price dropped 3 cents to $3.491 a gallon in its third straight decline, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration data released Nov. 18. The average price across the U.S. is down 8.2 cents since Oct. 28.

Year-Over-Year Comparison

The U.S. average is 71.8 cents below the same week in 2023. California has the largest year-over-year price decline at 98.1 cents a gallon.

Regional Analysis

East Coast (PADD 1): Diesel prices in the East Coast region fell by 2.7 cents, averaging $3.552 per gallon. Year-over-year prices are 60.3 cents lower. Subregional trends:

• New England (PADD 1A): Prices rose 0.4 cent to $3.751, making it the only area with an increase. However, prices remain 70.6 cents lower than the same week last year.

• Central Atlantic (PADD 1B): A 3.5-cent decline brought the average to $3.772, with year-over-year prices down 69.9 cents.

• Lower Atlantic (PADD 1C): Prices fell by 2.7 cents to $3.451, marking a 55.6-cent year-over-year drop.

Midwest (PADD 2): The Midwest recorded a 3.8-cent decrease, averaging $3.466 per gallon. This marks a cumulative 10.3-cent drop over the past three weeks, with prices now 74.1 cents lower than a year ago.

Gulf Coast (PADD 3): The Gulf Coast, historically the region with the lowest prices, experienced a 1.7-cent dip to $3.153 per gallon. Prices are now 68.8 cents lower from the 2023 period.

Rocky Mountain (PADD 4): The Rocky Mountain region had the most significant weekly decline, with prices shedding 6.7 cents to $3.458 a gallon. This represents an 81-cent reduction from the year-earlier period.

West Coast (PADD 5): The West Coast averaged $4.149 per gallon, reflecting a 3.1-cent decrease. Subregional trends include:

• West Coast less California: Prices dropped by 5.1 cents to $3.706, down 86.5 cents year over year.

• California: The state recorded a 0.7-cent decline, averaging $4.659 per gallon. The state’s prices are down 98.1 cents from last year, the steepest year-over-year decline in the nation.

Gasoline Update

The national average price for a gallon of gasoline dipped just six-tenths of a cent to $3.046 a gallon. That's 24.3 cents less than at this time a year ago.
