Diesel Prices Sink Again, Down 1.5 Cents to $1.539 a Gallon

The national average price of diesel fuel continued its slide, falling another 1.5 cents a gallon to $1.539, the Department of Energy said Monday.

It was the fifth decline in as many weeks as concern about oil supplies receded as the United States and its allies made progress in the war in Iraq and feared disruptions did not take place.

The dip brought fuel prices to their lowest point since Feb. 3, when the average diesel price was $1.542 a gallon, according to DOE’s Energy Information Administration.

Gasoline prices fell 3.5 cents a gallon to $1.595, EIA said.

The largest decline in diesel prices was seen in the New England states, where diesel costs fell 5.5 cents a gallon to $1.691, EIA said.

The average price decline in each of the nine regions the EIA uses for comparison was 2.83 cents a gallon.

Each week, the EIA surveys 350 diesel-filling stations to compile a snapshot of the average diesel price nationwide.
