Diesel’s national average retail price rose for a fourth week, climbing 2 cents to $2.924 a gallon, the Department of Energy reported.

Diesel has now risen 16.8 cents in the past month, after falling 12.3 cents in the previous five weeks, DOE said Monday following its weekly survey of filling stations.

Monday’s gain left trucking’s main fuel 90.7 cents over the same week last year, according to DOE figures.

Gasoline also rose for a fourth straight week, rising 3.7 cents to $2.788 a gallon, and is now 87.8 cents higher than a year ago, DOE said.

Before its current increases, gas fell 14.3 cents over five weeks, while in the past month it has risen 18 cents.

Oil closed at above $81 a barrel every day last week, in the highest sustained prices since January, Bloomberg reported.

Crude futures fell $1.44 Monday to close at $79.80 on the New York Mercantile Exchange, its first closing price below $80 since March 2.

Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
