DOT Creates Online Career Center for Veterans

The Department of Transportation said Thursday it has created an online career center for veterans seeking jobs in the transportation industry.

Developed with the Department of Veterans Affairs, www.dot.gov/veteranstransportationcareers offers information about how veterans’ specific military experience can translate to civilian jobs.

“Our transportation industry needs pilots, controllers, mechanics and drivers — the very kinds of skills that our military is known for developing,” Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said.

“This new web link will help repay the debt we owe our veterans for their service to our country,” he said in a statement.

The announcement was made in Washington following a meeting of the conference on labor-management relations, which was formed in response to a recommendation made by LaHood in 2010.
