DOT Hires Katz as Counselor

The Department of Transportation has hired Dan Katz as counselor to Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx, a department spokeswoman confirmed March 20.

Katz will lead the agency’s push to persuade Congress to enact a long-term surface transportation bill that will address the impending insolvency of the federal Highway Trust Fund.

He previously worked as chief counsel and chief of staff for the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) and for the Senate Appropriations and Budget committees.

Earlier this month, President Obama introduced his fiscal 2015 budget proposal, calling for $73.6 billion for surface transportation as part of an overall $302.3 billion transportation plan over the next four years.
