Duncan’s Task at FedEx Is to Integrate Viking, AF

Douglas G. Duncan, the president of FedEx Corp.’s newest and most truck-heavy division, is no longer spending his time organizing less-than-truckload shipments as he once did. Now he’s focusing on the dynamics of whole companies.

As chief executive officer of FedEx Freight, Duncan, 50, must take Viking Freight, his former company, and piece it together with American Freightways, which formally became a FedEx carrier Feb. 9. Additionally, he has to find a way to integrate the freight division’s LTL services into FedEx’s overall menu of transportation offerings.

“We’re trying not to be a one-trick pony. Ultimately, we don’t get to decide if it’s going to be a package job, express or freight. That’s up to the customer, and we’re trying to offer them a tailored solution,” he said from his new office in FedEx’s Memphis, Tenn., headquarters.
