Durable Goods Orders Fall 3.6%

Durable goods orders slid 3.6% in April, the Commerce Department said Wednesday.

The decrease followed three straight gains including a revised 4.4% jump in March that was larger than previously estimated.

The April drop compared with analysts’ forecasts of a 2.5% decrease, Bloomberg reported.

Orders excluding transportation equipment fell 1.5% in April, following a 2.5% gain in March.

Durable goods include large items such as refrigerators and air conditioners. Trucking is a major beneficiary of durable goods manufacturing, hauling both components and finished goods.
