Durable Goods Orders Fall in May

Durable goods orders fell 2.8% in May, the first drop in four months, the Commerce Department said Wednesday.

The drop, which followed a revised 1.1% gain in April, was greater than the 1% decline predicted by economists, Bloomberg reported.

Orders excluding transportation equipment fell 1% after rising 2.5%.

Trucking is a major beneficiary of durable goods manufacturing, hauling both components and finished goods.
