EPA to Issue $9 Million for DERA Projects

The Environmental Protection Agency has announced the availability of $9 million in grant funding for projects designed to reduce pollution and emissions exposure from the nation’s fleet of diesel engines.

The funding comes from EPA’s Diesel Emission Reduction Act program, which is intended to assist the most cost-effective projects and fleets operating in areas designated as having poor air quality.

EPA anticipates awarding between 10 and 20 assistance agreements. The closing date for proposals is June 17, EPA said.

The agency said it has awarded more than 600 DERA grants nationwide and reduced more than 250,000 tons of nitrogen oxides and more than 14,000 tons of particulate matter.
