FedEx to Buy 51 Hybrid Trucks

FedEx Corp. said that its FedEx Express subsidiary will purchase 51 new gasoline-electric hybrid step vans.

After the vans are delivered at the end of the year, FedEx’s fleet will contain 325 hybrid and electric vehicles, FedEx said in a statement Monday.

The new vehicles will be purchased from Azure Dynamics Corp., Oak Park, Mich., a company that specializes in hybrid and electric powertrain systems for commercial vehicles.

FedEx said that the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority will provide a grant for the hybrid vehicles.

Most of the vehicles will be based at the company's Bronx, N.Y., station, which will make the facility’s fleet entirely hybrid vehicles.

FedEx Corp. is ranked No. 2 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
