FedEx, DHL Express Boost Air Capacity

DHL Express and FedEx Express each said this week they have taken delivery of new, larger freight aircraft.

FedEx on Tuesday unveiled its first Boeing Co. 777F, at ceremonies in Everett, Wash. The carrier has ordered a total of 15 of those aircraft that have larger capacity than other planes in its network.

DHL on Wednesday introduced a Boeing 767 extended range freighter on a flight between Leipzig, Germany and New York. A total of six of the planes are intended to replace capacity shared with Lufthansa Cargo.

FedEX Corp. is ranked No. 2 and DHL is ranked No. 3 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
