Fleetmaster Express marked the launch of the first two Volvo VNR Electric trucks in its fleet with a ceremony in Arlington, Texas , the company announced May 26.

The event convened at AT&T Stadium on May 23. Fleetmaster said the trucks will operate out of its Fort Worth terminal. Two charging stations have been installed.

The company plans to grow its electric fleet to all local positions in Indiana, Ohio, Virginia and Tennessee.

“Four years of countless planning, engineering and development,” Chief Operating Officer Travis Smith said. “I’m thrilled to say that Fleetmaster Express is on the cutting edge of the industry delivering an alternative sustainable energy solution. Technology like this is the future of our industry.”

Volvo Trucks North America, Ball Corp. and Nacarato Truck Centers help the carrier in obtaining the trucks and needed infrastructure support. The Volvo VNR Electric trucks will be used to haul aluminum cans on estimated 8-mile runs around Fort Worth from Ball’s distribution center. They will run an average of 10 to 15 trips per day.

“We’re thrilled to be teaming up with Fleetmaster Express and Volvo Trucks North America to reduce carbon emissions throughout our value chain,” said Adam Shalapin, global sustainability director at Ball. “We look forward to future opportunities to expand the use of electric trucks throughout our Beverage Packaging North America network.” — Transport Topics
