Flood of Aid Overwhelms NYC Storage

Trucking’s quick response brought critical supplies to the disaster sites within hours after the Sept. 11 attacks, but the word now out of New York is to hold off on bringing goods unless relief workers specifically request them.

The workers say they still need asbestos respirators and other supplies but are running out of places to store the excess water, clothes and food.

Emergency responders and trucking executives coordinating the recovery applauded trucking for its rapid response when hijackers flew planes into the World Trade Center in New York and Pentagon just outside of Washington, D.C.
