Sections of Interstates 24 and 40 remained closed around Nashville, Tenn., Monday morning as flooding left several feet of water on roadways, the Tennessean newspaper reported.
State officials closed I-24 in multiple places throughout Davidson County due to flooded road conditions, the paper said. The Tennessee Department of Transportation recommended that motorists do not travel on the road at all.
I-40 is also closed in many places within Davidson County. Traffic is being diverted to alternate routes in places where all lanes are blocked.
The floods killed at least 19 people in Tennessee and Mississippi, NBC News reported Monday.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation is posting road closings and advisories on its Web site, www.tdot.state.tn.us.
