FMCSA Posts Proposed Hours-of-Service Rule

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration published its proposed hours-of-service rule in Wednesday’s Federal Register, outlining the details of the proposal it first released last week.

FMCSA, part of the U.S. Department of Transportation, said last week that it has not yet decided if truckers should be allowed 10 or 11 hours of daily driving time under a revised hours of service rule.

The proposal retains the 34-hour restart provision that allows drivers to restart their weekly clocks after 34 consecutive off-duty hours, though the agency said the restart will have to include two consecutive off-duty periods from midnight to 6:00 a.m.
