Former Pilot Flying J President Mark Hazelwood has been named a “target” of an ongoing federal probe into fuel rebate fraud, according to a Cleveland television station.
The ABC affiliate said a source close to the investigation told the station that Hazelwood has received a “target letter” from federal prosecutors indicating he is being investigated for alleged involvement in the scheme.
Transport Topics could not independently confirm the television report.
So far, 10 Pilot executives have entered into plea bargain agreements that require them to cooperate with federal investigators.
Hazelwood, who left the company earlier this year, has not been charged with a crime.
The investigation into fuel-rebate fraud at Pilot was made public in April of last year when FBI agents raided the company’s Knoxville, Tennessee, headquarters.
