Forward Air’s 2Q Earnings Improve

Forward Air Corp. said its second-quarter profit rose to $12.1 million, or 42 cents a share, from $11.5 million, or 38 cents, a year ago.

Revenue jumped 30.5% to $121.6 million, the company said late Monday.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bruce Campbell cited the company’s truckload brokerage and door-to-door pick-up and delivery service as “key contributors” to the improved earnings.

“The success of these initiatives along with improved freight volumes and disciplined cost control by our team enabled us to post record results in the most challenging of economic times,” he said in a statement.

Chief Financial Officer Rodney Bell said the company anticipates third-quarter revenue growth in the 22% to 27% range, with income per share in the 40- to 44-cent range.

Forward Air, a contractor to the air cargo industry, is ranked No. 65 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
