Gasoline prices jumped nearly 20 cents in the past two weeks to $3.07 a gallon, according to the latest Lundberg Survey of filling stations released Sunday.
The price was a record for the survey. The previous Lundberg record was $3.03, set Aug. 11.
The gasoline record in the U.S. Department of Energy’s weekly surveys was $3.069, set on Sept. 5, 2005, immediately following Hurricane Katrina. DOE will release its weekly price survey Monday afternoon.
Despite concerns about gasoline inventories that have sent prices higher, there are signs that the rising prices at the pump may be peaking, the Associated Press reported.
The nationwide average for mid-grade gasoline was $3.18 and premium was $3.28, Lundberg said in her twice-monthly survey.
The nation’s lowest average pump price was $2.80 per gallon in Charleston, S.C., while the highest was $3.49 in San Francisco.
