Idle-Aire says truckers will be able to heat or cool their cabs at truck stops without idling their engines.
Mark Hazelwood, executive vice president of Pilot Corp., Knoxville, Tenn., said the system will be a realilty in 2001. Five to six of his trucks stops will test out the Idle-Aire product for six months.

Telephone, Internet and cable television service will be added to heating and air conditioning where possible, said Idle-Aire officials. By April, the company hopes to crank up a truck stop space reservation system.

David Everhart, chief executive officer of Idle-Aire, said the benefits of using the service include reducing air pollution, conserving fuel, better sleep for the driver, eliminating engine icing and less wear and tear on the truck’s engine, which he said should cut maintenance costs and extend the life of the unit.
