Heartland Express Boosts Driver Pay

Truckers for Heartland Express will soon be enjoying about a 2-cent-a-mile increase in pay.

The nationwide truckload carrier based in Coralville, Iowa, announced the raises for company drivers, effective March 18.

Long-haul truckers with one year of experience under their belts will receive 36 cents a mile under the revised scale. Those big rig operators with seven years behind the wheel are entitled to 39 cents, plus a 1-cent safety bonus. The previous pay rates were 33.5 cents and 38 cents, respectively.

Rates for regional drivers with one year of experience will now start at 34 cents a mile and go up to 37 cents, plus the 1-cent safety bonus, for those with seven years of experience. Pay for regional drivers had been 31.5 cents and 36 cents, respectively.
