Heartland’s Earnings Improve for 4Q, Year

Heartland Express said its fourth-quarter and full-year profit rose from the year-ago periods.

Fourth-quarter net income rose to $15.4 million, or 17 cents per share, from $10.7 million, or 12 cents, a year earlier. Revenue rose 13.7% to $129.2 million, the truckload carrier said in a statement.

For the full year, Heartland earned $62.2 million, or 69 cents per share, up from $56.9 million, or 62 cents, in 2009. Revenue rose 8.7% to $499.5 million.

The company began upgrading its fleet last year and said the average age of its fleet at the end of the year was 1.8 years, with almost 90% 2009 models and newer.



Heartland Express is ranked No. 46 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire trucking companies.
