Heartland’s Third-Quarter Earnings Rise
Heartland Express’ third-quarter profits climbed 43% from a year ago as freight demand remained strong.
The truckload carrier said net income rose to $22.7 million, or 26 cents per share, from $15.9 million, or 19 cents, a year earlier.
Quarterly revenue jumped 66% to $217 million.
“Freight demand continued to be strong throughout the quarter as the company experienced above-normal volumes of freight across the entire United States,” a company report said. “All regions of the country were strong, with some like the West Coast being extremely overbooked. Loads turned down throughout the quarter were the highest the company has seen since before the recession.”
Heartland ranks No. 33 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
