Highways Remain Closed Near Atlanta as Flooding Slows

Two Interstate highways remain closed near Atlanta Tuesday afternoon due to continued flooding and the damage storms have caused to the roads.

Interstate 20 is closed in two seconds west of the city, one between Thornton Road and Fulton Industrial Boulevard, and one where the road crosses Sweetwater Creek, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Interstate 285 remains closed on the west side of Atlanta, the AJC said.

Scores of smaller urban and rural roadways are also closed as well.

The worst of the flooding in the southeastern United States likely over, the AJC said, citing National Weather Service sources.

Rain continued to fall Tuesday afternoon and flood warnings continue in some areas, the AJC reported. Officials urge drivers and residents to heed warnings and barricades.
