Holiday Weekend Driving to Rise Slightly, AAA Says

The number of Americans driving during the Memorial Day holiday weekend will rise slightly, with a majority saying gasoline prices will not impact their plans, according to AAA.

The number of automobile trips will increase by 0.25%, to 31.2 million, according to the motorist group. About 89% of overall travelers will drive to their destination, AAA said.

Current gasoline prices are in line with this time last year, and 62% of those surveyed said the price would not have an effect on travel plans, AAA said.

Overall, about 34.8 million people will travel 50 miles or more from home during the three-day weekend, AAA said.
