I2 Gets Into Internet Logistics Game With Partners

I2Technologies, a big player in setting up Internet trading sites, announced the formation of a marketplace for transportation.

Freightmatrix will offer shippers, carriers and logistics providers a Web location where they can buy and sell transportation, plan cargo requirements and execute shipment delivery. Ryder Systems of Miami is the primary logistics firm for the site and Central Transportation International of Warren, Mich., is the main less-than-truckload carrier.

Domestic transportation providers will use the Internet exchange to improve planning and efficiency. The venture also will create revenue and cost savings for carriers and logistics providers, according to I2.
