IMC Cos. Adds H&M to National Drayage Network
IMC Cos. expanded its intermodal drayage operations with the purchase of H&M Terminal Transport from H&M International Transportation in Iselin, N.J.
Terms were not disclosed, but the latest acquisition brings to nine the number of drayage companies operating under the IMC corporate umbrella.
“Like us, the H&M team specializes in container drayage,” said Mark George, chairman of IMC Cos. in Memphis, Tenn. “This acquisition enhances our existing national footprint that allows us to handle freight in any major rail or port facility in the United States.”
IMC Cos. ranks No. 84 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America and No. 8 on the list of top carriers in the intermodal/drayage sector.
The purchase of H&M’s drayage fleet includes about 140 drivers and depots in six locations, including Jersey City, N.J.; City of Commerce and Montebello, Calif.; Chicago; Laredo, Texas; and Memphis. Going forward, the company will operate under the name H&M Intermodal Services.
H&M International Transportation will continue to operate businesses other than trucking, including rail terminal services, warehousing and distribution, customs brokerage, container freight stations and maintenance and repair services.

With the addition of H&M, IMC will have more than 2,100 employees nationwide, making it the largest privately owned marine drayage company in the United States, according to IMC officials.
The company’s other intermodal drayage service providers include: Atlantic Intermodal Services, DNJ Intermodal Services, Gulf Intermodal Services, IMC Global Solutions, Intermodal Cartage Co., National Drayage Services, Ohio Intermodal Services and Progressive Transportation Services.
IMC also provides freight brokerage and forwarding, expedited trucking, customs brokerage, warehousing, chassis repair and secure container storage.
