Initial Jobless Claims Climb by 9,000

Initial jobless jumped by 9,000 to 429,000 last week, the Labor Department said Thursday.

Economists had called for a rate of 415,000, Bloomberg reported.

The four-week moving average, a less volatile measure, held at to 426,250.

Continuing jobless claims for the previous week ended June 11 fell by 1,000 to 3.7 million, Labor said.
