Initial Jobless Claims Fall to Lowest Level Since January

Initial jobless claims fell to the lowest level since January, the Labor Department said Thursday.

Claims fell 10,000 to 514,000 for the week ended Saturday, the department said in its weekly report.

Economists had forecast claims would fall to 520,000 from an originally reported 521,000 the previous week, Bloomberg reported.

The four-week moving average, a less volatile measure, fell to 531,500, from 540,500.

Continuing claims for the previous week ended Oct. 3 fell 75,000 to 5.99 million, the lowest since March.
