Initial Jobless Claims Rise 3,000 for Week

First-time U.S. jobless claims rose 3,000 last week to 311,000, the Labor Department said Thursday.The level was a notch below economists’ forecasts of 312,000 new claims, Bloomberg reported.The less-volatile four-week moving average rose to 308,250 from 305,000, Labor said.The number of people continuing to collect benefits fell to 2.49 million for the previous week ended Jan. 27, from 2.544 million a week earlier.
