International Truck said it is offering the first telematics credit for the industry as part of the effort to lower customers’ operating expenses.
The credit, offered through approved providers, is in effect for all orders placed since July 1 in North America and available to fleets purchasing equipment through International Truck dealers. A two-year data plan in conjunction with several integrated providers is standard equipment at no additional cost, the Navistar International Corp. statement said.
“The commitment to invest in the telematics and remote diagnostics bundle represents our continued commitment to increase our customers’ uptime and lower their operating costs — today,” said Jeff Sass, Navistar senior vice president of North America Truck Sales and Marketing. “We feel it is our responsibility to make OnCommand Connection and remote diagnostics available to everyone.”
The telematics feature adds capabilities for dealers to assess vehicle health, coupled with the latest step that removes cost barriers for fleets’ use of the technology.
In a separate announcement, Navistar said production has begin of its WorkStar, medium-duty vocational truck with Cummins Inc.’s ISB 6.7 engine.
The Cummins engine is an option on the WorkStar and DuraStar trucks. WorkStars also are available with Navistar’s own 9.3-liter and 13-liter offerings.
