International to Open Truck Plant in Russia

International Truck and Engine Corp. will open an assembly plant in Russia this month to tap demand for heavy-duty vehicles in that country, Bloomberg reported Friday.

International, a unit of Navistar Corp., will unveil the new facility under the name of local distributor GoodWill Holding on Jan. 22, a spokeswoman for GoodWill told Bloomberg.

The plant, based Pushkin, near St. Petersburg, will produce 16 to 24 trucks a month, mainly the International 9800i model, using parts from Brazil and the United States, Bloomberg said.

Toyota Motor Corp. opened a plant near St. Petersburg last month, following Ford Motor Co. as one of five foreign automakers with plants either built or planned to be built around Russia’s second-largest city, Bloomberg reported.
