J.B. Hunt’s 1Q Earnings Improve
J.B. Hunt Transport Services said its first-quarter net earnings increased to $37.5 million, or 29 cents per share, from $30.8 million, or 24 cents, a year ago.
Revenue rose 17% to $845 million, the company said late Wednesday.
Operating income improved to $67.4 million, from $57 million, due primarily to a 21% increase in intermodal volume, positive truck operating income versus a $5.8 million loss last year and improved results in the dedicated contract carriage services segment.
Truck segment operating income was $600,000, compared with the loss last year, while revenue rose 11% to $113 million.
Intermodal segment operating income gained 15% to $47.5 million, while revenue rose 20% to $469 million.
The Dedicated Contract Services segment’s operating income improved 6% to $18.4 million, while revenue rose 16% to 208 million.
