Jobless Rolls Reach Four-Year High

Initial jobless claims rose to a four-year high last week, the Labor Department said Thursday.

The number of people continuing to collect unemployment benefits jumped to 3.019 million for the week ended April 19, a four-year high, Labor said.

Claims rose 35,000 to 380,000 for the week ended Saturday, which was a four-week high. Economists had forecast 365,000 claims, Bloomberg reported.

The four-week moving average, a less volatile measure, fell to 363,750, from 370,250.
