Kansas City Southern’s 1Q Income Rises

Kansas City Southern’s first-quarter income rose to $104.2 million, or 94 cents a share, from $75.3 million, or 68 cents, a year ago.

The railroad’s revenue increased 1% to $553 million, the company said Friday.

Carload volumes increased 2%. Revenue grew in five out of six commodity groups, led by a 31% gain in automotive and a 17% increase in intermodal.

Revenue for the agriculture and minerals group fell 28%.
