Kentucky Gas Tax Increasing 2.4 Cents to 32.3 Cents a Gallon

Kentucky’s gas tax is increasing next month by 2.4 cent to 32.3 cents a gallon due to an automatic tax increase, the Associated Press reported.

The gasoline tax in Kentucky is tied to wholesale fuel prices under a law passed 30 years ago on the concern that rising gasoline prices would cause people to purchase less fuel and mean less revenue for highway projects, according to AP.

The gas tax increase will generate an additional $72 million for the states road fund, AP reported.

The state surveys wholesale gasoline prices every three months to determine whether the gas tax should rise or fall, according to AP.
