L.A. Container Shipping Grows

Container shipping at the Port of Los Angeles grew by 8.75% in June, faster than the first-half average, the port authority said Wednesday.

Los Angeles handled 696,850 twenty foot-equivalent units, up from 640,795 in June 2011.

For the first half of the year, volume was 4.01 million TEUs, a 6.45% increase from the year-ago period.

For the month, 50.8% of containers handled were imports, 25% were exports and 24.2% were empty, according to the port authority.
