Lion Battery-Electric Trucks Bound for Amazon

Lion Electric announced that it will deliver 10 Class 6 battery-electric vehicles to Amazon.com Inc., with the first two arriving this year.

Amazon plans to use Lion’s trucks in its middle-mile trucking operations within the company’s network, according to Montreal-based Lion.

The addition of these battery-electric trucks to Amazon’s fleet will help the company deliver on its goal of decarbonizing its transportation operations in support of The Climate Pledge, a commitment to be net-zero carbon across the business by 2040.

“This vehicle delivery for Amazon represents a very significant milestone for Lion. Amazon is a leader in adopting decarbonizing technologies that can improve sustainability among their trucking fleet,” Lion founder and CEO Marc Bedard said in a release.

As part of the delivery, Lion will provide a one-time training to Amazon and the drivers who will operate the trucks. It also will establish a maintenance program for the trucks, as part of Lion’s expanding network of experience centers.

Lion’s all-electric truck offering consists of Classes 5-8, including straight truck, tractor, reefer, bucket and refuse trucks. They have a range of up to 250 miles. — Transport Topics
