Brandon Nixon is retiring from his roles as CEO and chairman of the video telematics supplier Lytx, the company confirmed Jan. 21.

Nixon has been at the company for the past 17 years, most of that time as CEO. He helped guide Lytx during the early days of video telematics in trucking. The company said he is retiring to focus on personal priorities and passions.

“Andy Eckert will serve as the interim CEO until a permanent successor is identified,” Lytx said in a statement provided to Transport Topics. “This planned retirement and CEO transition will ensure Lytx’s continued success, thanks to a strong leadership team and a robust strategy focused on protecting companies’ most valuable assets: their people, equipment and reputations.”

Nixon first announced his departure Dec. 31 via social media. He highlighted how much the company changed over time to become what it is today, including efforts to empower customers and employees to thrive professionally and personally.

“I am filled with immense pride,” Nixon wrote. “Serving as chairman and CEO has truly been the highlight of my career. When I joined this small, struggling company in 2008, I was motivated by the opportunity to help build something extraordinary. Over nearly two decades, we not only achieved the goal of creating a great company, but we also accomplished the rare feat of founding an entirely new industry — video telematics.”

Nixon also expressed being deeply grateful about being part of an endeavor that benefits everyone involved. But now, he noted, the plan is to cheer on the company from the sidelines.

“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the incredible employees, clients, partners and investors of Lytx,” Nixon said. “While we’ve accomplished so much together, I know the company’s journey is only beginning. With over 100 million commercial vehicles still in need of our technology, the future holds immense promise. As I look ahead to the next chapter in my life, I’m uncertain of exactly where it will take me, but I am certain that Lytx will continue to grow.”
