Mack to Boost Production, Add Shift at Pa. Plant

Company Cites Higher Demand for Pinnacle Model
Mack Trucks said it will boost production and add a shift at its Macungie, Pa., truck plant in August, adding about 300 new employees.

The move is to higher demand for its Pinnacle highway model, Mack said in a statement.

“Customers are extremely pleased with the Pinnacle model and our MP series engines, in terms of both performance and fuel economy,” Kevin Flaherty, Mack senior vice president for U.S. and Canada, said.

Because Mack has recalled employees laid-off during the truck industry’s downturn, all of the additional personnel will be new hires, the company said.

The production increase will include adding a second shift at the plant and the truck maker plans to have the new hires in place by early August.

The Macungie plant now employs 1,030 workers. That includes 60 new hires who came aboard earlier this month and 125 people who were either recalled or newly hired last October, Mack said.

Mack Trucks is a unit of Sweden-based Volvo AB.
