Mack Trucks Inc. has announced it will bring all heavy-duty axle production to its Hagerstown, Md., plant by 2015.
As part of a $30 million investment, Mack will begin assembling all heavy-duty drive axles and machining all carrier housing in Hagerstown. The plant produces all Mack engines, and preparation for the axle operation is under way.
“Coming on the heels of the $8 million investment that brought production of the mDrive transmission to Hagerstown last year, this decision is another indication of our commitment to excellence in integrated powertrain design and manufacturing,” said John Walsh, Mack’s vice president of marketing.
Mack also will be upgrading the engine assembly process and centralization of aftermarket warehousing operations.
Mack Trucks, is one of North America’s largest producers of heavy-duty trucks.
